Guided
Investigation into Interactional Behaviors
Derek Garrison,
University of Florida
You
already know that different cultures use language according to their own
meanings and interpretations when they interact. But exactly how are they different?
How can you learn to understand these differences and use them in your
own conversations? The pages below will guide you through investigation,
reflection, and practice to help you more actively and appropriately participate
in conversations in English.
- If you are a student, the best place
to start is Exploring Beliefs. Here, you will reflect on your
thoughts and beliefs about intercultural communication. From
there, you can move on to Methods of Investigating, to begin
learning about how to investigate spoken interaction, and then to the
different aspects of conversation according to your interests.
- If you are a teacher, Tips
for Teachers will explain how to use this resource as well as offer
suggestions for handling difficulties you may encounter along the
way.
